Irish Soda Bread

From William: Rebecca’s mother’s McGuire family recipe.
Ingredients
- 6 fistfuls plain flour
- 3 fistfuls wheat bran
- 2 fistfuls pinhead oatmeal
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1-2 ounces butter
- around 500 ml buttermilk
Instructions
Mix the ingredients, slowly adding buttermilk till you get to a soft dough. Turn it on to a floured surface and shape into a round loaf shape. Make a deep cross across the top so that once baked it has four corners. Dust the top lightly with pinhead oatmeal, and bake at 180C for 50-55 minutes.
Serve with Irish butter, and jam, or even a full Irish breakfast.
