Description
Back in the 1950s, pomegranate molasses was not available, even in the Middle Eastern shops. So Grandma Rachel used to make this substitute, and some of us still like the taste better than the real thing.
Ingredients
- 1 tin treacle
- 2oz citric acid (lemon salt)
- 1tbsp salt
- 2tbsp demerara sugar
- water (same quantity as treacle tin)
Instructions
Combine and bring to boil in a pan, then cool. Keeps in a jar in the fridge for a very long time.
Used for various stuffed vegetables (courgettes, carrots, cabbage), and on Lahm’a B’jeen. Also good for slow-cooked lamb, or even duck legs/breast.
Can be stored outside the fridge.
